Love and best wishes to both his victims, it could have been any of us.
sending warmest wishes to your friend and the other woman attacked.
I like many other women come out of Manor House often late and walk along Green lanes... could have been any of us and makes me think have to be really really aware of who is around me and what they are up to.
thanks for informing us all about this.
Good work from everyone involved in these horrible offences.
The Sapphire team (at the Met) have done well in bringing this man to justice. A good and commendable effort. I would like to know
1. Will he be deported after he has completed his sentence - don't forget he is eligible for parole after serving half? Presumably he will (when that happens) be excluded from this area for the sake of his victims - thats what usually happens. But what ever area he goes to he will be a danger to other women.
2. Does he have a record in Romania - I suspect that he does ???
3. He may have been sentenced (a finite one) but the survivors of his attacks have been given a life sentence of Post Traumatic Stress.
4. In this country (as in most countries) rapists only have a low chance of conviction - 6.5%. Which means a lot of rapists walking around free to do it again. Conviction rates are improving, slowly with the good work of specialist police teams like the Sapphire Unit - which provide medical examinations, total confidentiality, specialist counselling and lots of 1-2-1 support for the victim - the victim does not have to take it forward for prosecution if she (or he) does not want to.
Many victims are too traumatised to report it or speak of it until years later - if ever.
