Fears for safety expressed as Parks police disbanded

Following on from this decision, the GMB have raised concerns about safety in the parks.

The national trade union body called on the council to reverse its decision and reinstate the officers.

Organiser Gary Carter said: "It makes no sense to get rid of a service that has been effective. While an increased presence in the parks is welcome, GMB believe this should not be achieved through budget cuts and scraping the Parks Constabulary.

"[They] have the training, authority and powers of arrest to deal with the wide range of problems in the parks."
