Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

VERY disappointing attitude today when tried to have a cuppa and some lunch in Moka today. 

The cafe was very quiet with maybe 4 people in it at 11.40am. I went in with a friend and our two toddlers (one in a carrier and the other in the buggy). We had to leave because buggies are not allowed in there because it would get sooo busy at lunchtime. I was told Id have to fold the buggy up or basically put it outside in the rain as buggies are not allowed. Sadly its jammed so won't fold so we had no option than to leave. There was plenty of room in the corner by the door for it that wasn't in the way of a seat or a fire hazzard. We were only going to be quick so we could get home to get our kids to nap - so infact we'd have been out before the 'rush' got that bad. 

Anyway I won't bother going again now. Have met a friend for brunch in there many a time. People forget that us 'mums' are also normal people and do frequent places on our own with friends to have a good ol breakfast too, so being a bit more civil about things like this helps.

Come on Moka - we were so pleased when you came to our neighbourhood but now I am writing this??

The redeeming point about this post is that the subject had a right of reply (unless the post had been "information only"...
So the headline and subsequent tweet may have generated a lot of interest but it's basically advertising.

Wow HOL is full on. That was my first ever post. I'll just moan to everyone I see next time this kind of thing happens :) Thanks for your apology though Kevin - realistically though - all your staff member needed to do was listen to me and realise that perhaps leaving my buggy in the rain was not the best solution...especially as there was hardly anyone in the cafe. 

This is a reasoned response, and its only fair that a clearly popular place should be able to defend itself. I do demure however, at the passive-aggressive tone in it which is so rendolent of corporate and political 'apologies'. The complainant 'felt' she had a bad experience and 'felt' a staff member was rude; then 'misunderstood' the staff members comment.

Perfectly reasonable request and response by Kevan and his team. Perhaps you chose to take offence because you were disgruntled at being asked to fold it up. Ok, I wasn't there but what I'm saying is it's easy to take offence where none was meant. Maybe it would have been reasonable on your part to have asked first if you could have taken it in, given that you knew it was damaged and you couldn't fold it?

Moka is great, I think it's a shame they're getting bad press over this and hopefully it won't have any negative impact on them.

Maybe we could start a new thread - " Café Unfriendly Customers " ? 

Seriously, it would have been much better to speak to the boss at the time and not gone public.

I was a bit surprised to see this after reading the thread title - I've been into Moka quite a few times for lunch during the week, and it often has loads of mums and dads with their babies quietly chatting over a coffee, so not sure I would agree it is family unfriendly. In fact, I remember thinking the exact opposite when I saw the fold away changing table in the bathroom! :)

The good news is that MOKA is/are advertising for Staff at the moment. If Lynbo could just adapt that Moka-unfriendly title above and fold it away, she could then apply to Kevin for the Post of Bugaboo-Folding Co-ordinator (Class 2).

Just a reminder to all to exercise good judgement about your posts and know when a topic is coming to a natural conclusion - a complaint has been made, the business has replied and the original complainant has had a right of response. Please take care not to let your contributions veer from zeal in defending a favourite business to becoming a criticism of the person raising the issue.
