Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Failing Finnish phone franchise, finally felled; flogged to the Beast of Redmond

WHEN a couple of years ago, the Beast of Redmond effectively took a stake in a past successful mobile phone company, some compared the deal with two drunks leaning against each other for support.

Now, what was speculated at the time has happened: the Beast has bought Nokia's phone business for $7.2 billion. Another big write-down in a couple of year's time?

Will the Trojan Horse – Stephen Elop, returning to the Beast – be a contender next year to replace Monkey Man Steve Barmy?

More detail at the Vulture.

Clive, it's a sad day to all the Finns over the world (even for this one in North London)..

Don't doubt it Mikko. I understand that some Finnish engineers left at the time of Microsoft's first "interest" and Elop's Burning Platforms speech.

Is it fair to say the firm had become complacent?

Coincidentally, the announcement came early this morning in the same World Service bulletin as the news that a much reduced Eastman Kodak is coming out of Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

Nokia is finnished ?

Probably if the failure of the Surface and Surface Pro is anything to go by.
