Hi all.

Has anyone else noticed how horrific the images are on a constant loop being beamed out of the windows of Ersan & Co opposite the Salisbury?

When it was first being refurbished, it was a mystery as to what it was going to be, then as the 'PERSONAL INJURY, 'ACCIDENT CLAIMS' and 'MEDICAL NEGLIGENCE' banners were unveiled it became clear that it is a ambulance chaser megamart.

So what right? These [sort of firms*] have to be based somewhere.

My gripe is that they show videos on a constant loop of all of the worst things which can happen. There is one video in particular which features an awful car accident where a car crosses into the oncoming lane and is obliterated by a truck. I have been in a couple of car accidents, and they are no joke, and it struck me that this is particularly inappropriate footage to be broadcasting to the general public 24 hours a day.

Also the monitors seem to be beaming these out at about a million lumens, they illuminate the whole street, thankfully my bedroom is not on the street side or I would need blackout curtains.

Who can I complain to? (Besides you lot...)

Pav: last November I even looked up the relevant legislation (which is pretty clear) and sent this to Planning Enforcement; but there is a limit to how much I can do alone.

Residents have complained repeatedly.

If this issue is to be resolved, then the current local Counclllors ought to involve themselves.

Update, Sunday: a senior enforcement officer visited the premises yesterday (Saturday) to be told by an employee,

that the display screens have been switched on as a consequence of an appeal lodged at the Highbury Magistrates Court against the Council’s notice

I support the past actions of the Council to bring enforcement action and support any defence the Council will make.

Another avenue that might help, would be if those politicians of the Majority Group – who were invited to and who attended the opening celebration party on the premises – including the Tottenham MP and local party representatives – were to try to dissuade Ersan & Co. from their Appeal (that will take up Council time and resources); to abide by our Council's enforcement action and to promise not to display these unsavoury videos again.

By "the premises", yes, I meant the celebratory opening party on the premises of Ersan & Co. and no, I did not allege bias.

Eighteen months on and we are still waiting for her to get the missing 7.5 T signage on Turnpike Lane/ Wightman junction replaced. Still waiting for her to reply to questions about did she vote to overturn the Scrutiny Committee recommendations on protection of children's and youth services.

John in respect of the subject of this thread, the enforcement action was taken, I believe, because the signs are illuminated.

However the videos themselves feature depictions of injury and accident: and inducements to lodge claims.

To encourage a claim through Ersan & Co., the videos make prominent play of the gifts on offer: an iPhone, a Computer or Gold Coins.

Fraud is a problem in the insurance industry. I cannot help wonder if these inducements to drum up business, tend to push up the level of fraud. Whether or not it pushes up fraudulent claims what is certain, is that at the end of the day, these free gifts tend to push up the cost of insurance and this is borne by everyone who purchases an insurance policy.

I think it would be helpful if local Majority Group representatives – who are on cordial terms with Ersan & Co – might encourage them to drop the Appeal. The enforcement action was taken on behalf of the public and precious public funds would be spent defending this action.

Our Enforcement Team have better things to do with their time.

John, I'm well known for my tactfulness. Here's some more:

There were sufficient representatives of the Labour Party at Ersan & Co's party, that we should expect more of them about this enforcement/Appeal business.

Up till today, I'm not aware – beyond one of them asking to be copied in to emails from angry residents – that any one of them has done any thing about this issue that has been dragging on since last Summer.

Clive. I think all concerned have to be carefully not to have quiet chats. Appeals are part of the planning process and politicians need to be careful they do not lay themselves open to accusations of using their influence to sway the course of the process. Don't think the planning inspectorate would take a very rosey view
