Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

ERS calls for Harringay & St Ann's to transfer to Hornsey Constituency

As part of its campaign to create equal-sized constituencies, the Electoral Reform Society has called on government and opposition to ensure that controversial legislation is introduced to delivers on election promises.

Amongst the changes it proposes is the transfer of Harringay and St Ann's ward to Hornsey Constituency. This would be balanced by moving Woodside and Noel Park wards into Tottenham.

See attached extract from the full report.

The ERS is a campaigning body and has no official status.

More at the ERS website.

Thanks to David Browne for the heads-up on this one.

Hope this isn't some plot to turn Hornsey and Wood Green Labour by moving boundaries.
Are you thinking that the ERS is some Labour Wooden horse, Lesley?
Looking at the 2010 council results, labour's top candidates in the wards leaving H&WG outscored the lib dem's top candidates by a combined score of 973 (2300-1733+2149-1743). In the wards coming in to H&WG, labour outscored lib dems by 1183 (2159-2244+2469-1201). That means these changes would give a combined advantage for labour in H&WG of 210 votes, against a Lib Dem majority of 6875. Not really the stuff of conspiracy theories!
If anything the swap would simply be bolstering the labour vote in Tottenham I would have thought.

The suggested new constituency name of 'Haringey' might be a bit confusing.
Re constituency name, there's a note at the top of the page (on the attachment) that says the names are for illustrative purposes only.
