Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

The following is a press release from Joanne McCartney's office:

Joanne McCartney, London Assembly Member for Enfield and Haringey, has again called on TfL not to proceed with cutting the hours tube ticket offices will be open, which will result in the loss of the equivalent of 38 staff. The stations will lose 6.5 staff members every day of the week, along with 2.5 on Saturdays and 3 on Sundays leaving a grand total of 38 staff.

Boris Johnson will be cutting the number of staff in Enfield & Haringey, which will result in ticket offices being open for less of the day, which goes against his manifesto commitment to ensure "there is always a manned ticket office at every station". He justifies these job cuts due to the number of tickets being issued by ticket offices falling.

Joanne McCartney, London Assembly Member for Enfield and Haringey, said: "While it is true that fewer tickets will be issued at the windows due to the increase in ticket machines, online sales & the oyster card, it would be a serious error to believe that this is a reason to cut their hours.

"You cannot renew a season ticket at a machine, you cannot ask travel advice of a ticket machine, and a ticket machine will not make you feel safe about being alone in a station early in the morning or late and night."

"Cutting the number of people working for London Underground will leave passengers with a worse service."

I wonder why Ms. McCartney didn't mention the other obvious worry, that machines might sometimes stop working for little or no reason thus inconveniencing millions of Londoners... oh, hang on.... ;)
I'm not saying that the ticket office staff positions should or should not be cut, but from reading this and much of the other (mainly union) propaganda on the subject, you'd think that the only staff at any tube station work in the ticket office, which clearly isn't the case.
In Enfield!? But they voted for him!
