Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

This is not really very important but I just wondered - does anyone else get a phenomenal number of Jehovah's Witnesses to their door on the Ladder? I have no gripe with JW but yesterday I had six people call at my door and the day before I had four. On average, I have about 12 JW callers a week (and sometimes other evangelical visitors too) knocking on my door.

I keep asking these JW - very politely - to tell their churches not to call on me as I'm not interested. I have to answer the door as I'm waiting for stuff to be delivered for work but I find it a bit annoying and scary when strangers call all the time (especially after reading all the stuff on here about scams with people coming to your door). Sometimes when I'm on the phone for work, they keep knocking until I go to the door thinking it's an emergency.

Anyway, just wondered if everyone on the Ladder comes across the same issue? Has anyone had any success getting evangelical converters to stop calling?

Answer the door naked, they will not call again.

I used to tell those 'nice young rosy cheeked american pilgrims' that I was gay and invite them in for a coffee..

whooosh .. and they were back off to Salt Lake City..

Possibly because Mormons don't drink coffee :-)

Hahahaha! John - it would be just my luck that when I answered the door naked, that would be the work calls........and I'm definitely not in THAT kind of work! I might try telling them I'm gay though. I am actually more willing to be gay than a JW.....

@RNM I'm glad to hear it - fancy a coffee?

That's exactly what I did - well nearly, towel wrapped around me at 11am one morning when they knocked on the door whilst I was bathing. Looked like a complete heathen and have had far less since. Nobody wants to Witness that (pardon the p-poor pun!).

I also point out the "No cold callers" notice, which seems to shock some of 'em - well they can hardly be warm standing out there ;-)

RNM: I find it hard to beleive you are recieving 12 JW callers a week; this is even more than the number of copies of Haringey People magazine that arrive unsolicited at my address.

Are you receiving WatchTower as well as visits? I covered Watchtower last week in the Hampstead and Highgate Express (please see attachment) and compared the JWs proselytizing magazine favourably with the council's Haringey People magazine, in at least one respect: who pays for it!

Alas Clive I really do get that many callers. But I've never been given the Watchtower or Haringey People. I just get takeaway menus. It appears they have identified me as a non-reader.....!
Freaky, we get nowhere near that. My husband is great with them, and earnestly says that he is an atheist who feels it is his duty to show them they are wrong.. They don't stay long. My method is less kind, but quicker.
Many years ago i told a group (we used to get regular calls on my estate) to F*** off. They never visited again. I am probably on some blacklist -which is good. I do see them around from time to time - but not at my door.

I work with a JW. They had a special two day meeting (I think it is called a Witnesssing? Happens a couple times a year in Twickenham stadium or other large venue) over last weekend and around the time of these meetings they do tend to be more evangelical than normal.

Or has this been happening for longer than the past week?

We uaed to get someone every weekend from the UCKG in Finsbury Park. Always at about 9.30am on a Saturday when we still in bed.Have not had anyone from there for a couple of months now. Had a JW at the door in December- I guess we get one every couple of months. But then again, I don't work from home so who knows how many knock at the door while I am at work.

Now look what ya done. You gone and got us stoned:
