Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Edible front gardens - calling anyone interested in growing things to eat

While going around the wonderful Harringay Open Gardens last Sunday, I was introduced to Suhith who lives in the Gardens and who shares an interest with me in getting people to use their front gardens to grow edibles.

We would really like to find other people in Harringay who either already grow veggies, herbs, fruit in their front gardens or who would be interested in getting started, with a view to setting up a project that would share seeds and seedlings, resources and knowledge and support front garden growing. Rent or own, no matter how small your front garden, even if you just have a window sill, we want to help you grow things to eat. No experience needed.

If you're interested in getting involved, message me (please don't put personal details in the open forum) your details with a view to meeting up and discussing how we can help Harringay eat their front gardens.

I would love to be involved and will message you, though there isn't much space at the moment what with the hedge, huge hebe and wheelie bins - I do have a bit of space though and window sills - I can picture now the herbs, radishes, lettuce and strawberries cascading down...

Have replied to your message

Yep up for this we are already growing fruit and veg in our back garden on philip lane

Great, drop me a private message for our contact details

I should like to be involved in this.  Space is not so much an issue for me as time, as I am caring for my mother who has a diagnosis of dementia.  Learning about low-maintenance edibles would be great.

Hi Heather

If you'd like to drop me a private message, I'll let you have our contact details

Yes, I would like to be involved! I will message you, thank you.

Hi there, I'm sort of interested, but have tried growing peas/lettuce/rocket/tomatoes without much luck unfortunately ...... (have no problem with flowers though!!).  I'm up for giving it another go though, but don't know how to message you - can you let me know how to do this please?

You should see a little envelope that says message on it under my replies that looks like this

You can do it like that or, failing that, take a look at the instructions available here

I'm interested too. Have been doing this but this year's tomato plants have 'walked'!

Thanks to all who have who responded to this post.

Suhith and I are proposing a meeting to talk about edible front gardens and ways forward.

We have set the date for

Sunday – 12 July
At Passion Café – 549 Green Lanes

We really hope you can make it. All welcome

Thanks Liz and Suhith.  What time are you proposing for the meeting?  Also, an idea of approximately how long it should last would help me.
