Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Apologies for the sensationalist headline, but thought it was worth a heads up. We recently had an agent selling EDF electric and gas come a door knocking. On a whim we thought we'd have a look at the comparisons and were surprised at the savings - so we signed up.

Later detailed checking showed that there were some errors in the calculation of usage that markedly changed the comparison. Just thought we'd mention it in-case anyone else has signed up. The core mistakes were in adding up the different bandings of usage on each bill. In some cases that meant EDF were calculting a monthly bill on 20% less usage than our current bill, so obviously it showed a cheaper rate. I don't think it was intentional, just a genuine error, but it could have been a costly one.

I always ask these door-to -door salesmen for a rate card. When they can't produce one I suggest they write to me setting out their tariffs. Strangely, they never have.

One said if I signed up there and then, his colleague would come up to adjust my meter so it read less. I'm afraid I shouted at him, rather :-)
I have been with nPower for 12 months now and am looking forward to a £100 rebate. As I'm an especially frugal user, this will be a significant percentage of my annual bill. According to an nPower salesman I passed in Wood Green Shopping City, they are now offering this incentive on each of Gas and Lecky (i.e "£200 annual rebate (no, I'm not on commission, more's the pity!).
