Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Thanks to Glen Wallis from for the Barking – Gospel Oak Rail User Group (BGORUG) for alerting us to the following:

Network Rail and TfL have issued almost identical press releases giving more information about the temporary closure of the Barking to Gospel Oak line through Harringay.

http://www.networkrailmediacentre.co.uk/news/drop-in-sessions-at-st...

https://tfl.gov.uk/info-for/media/press-releases/2016/april/drop-in...

Neither of these press releases gives any information regarding alternative arrangements for passengers but they give details of 'drop in sessions' at stations where Network Rail and TfL staff will be on hand to discuss the project and advise passengers on alternative routes during the closure.

Local drop in sessions will be:

  • South Tottenham, Wednesday 27 April, 16:00 to 19:00
  • Harringay Green Lanes, Thursday 28 April, 16:00 to 19:00
  • Crouch Hill, Tuesday 3 May, 16:00 to 19:00

Thanks Glen.

Glen, I had thought that electrification would mean through trains from Barking to West London. Is this the case?

'Fraid not! That was the idea back in 2004-6 when 'London Overground' was being planned. The original plan was for our service to be 2 trains per hour (tph) Barking - Gospel Oak and 2tph Barking - Clapham Junction (this idea can be traced back to 1975!). But when it came to it, the money wouldn't stretch to rebuilding Gospel Oak with at least one extra platform and so the idea was put on the back burner and quietly forgotten.

Oh that's a shame.

The success of this line is great and welcome the upgrade, but I'm going to miss my trips to Leigh on sea in one hour in this time
