You're right it's quite hard to measure yourself as you have to bend over and that messes up the measurements. But it's very possible to do it with an able assistant.

It's simply a matter of measuring the wide bits and the slim bits and the distance between them. Pay a girlfriend 1 x glass of wine to help you and it'll be perfect.

I also measure similar garments which fit me well and use those measurements sometimes
