Don't Feed Ducks Bread - Six things you didn't know you could feed ducks

With a river running through Harringay, the lake in Finsbury Park and the many other water features nearby, it seems appropriate to share this from the Canal and River Trust:

We tried this out in Clissold park last week they did not like lettuce one bit. They didn't mind the oats so much but it just kept flying off in the breeze we also tried chopped grapes they didn't go mad for those either. Might try the peas next time as they will be the. Easy to throw and easy for them to see and eat.

Ha ha! That's quite funny... not even ducks want to eat rabbit food! I think sweetcorn sounds good too for the same reasons you state that it's easy to throw and see. I did wonder at the fact that they say "swapping the usual white bread for something healthier". Without sounding very Arabella Weir, we only eat wholemeal granary!!!

Why should we feed ducks anyway ? They are quite capable or foraging for themselves and they know what suits them.

I've never seen a starving duck.

It's the joy that our little ones get from doing so...
You can get packets of suitable feed at the Hub cafe in Lordship Rec. Also there, on 29 May is Riverfest, run by Tottenham Ploughman. Great local food & drink, activities (I will be there helping with a litter pick and run with GoodGym) and more, it'll be huge and a great way to learn how we can all take more care of our waterways.

They also like snails - if you can get over the embarrassment of turning up at the park with a bag full of them.
