Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

And if they do, when was the last time they used it?

Reading Harringay based public librarian and library activist Alan Wylie's excellent piece for the Guardian on the part that libraries play in promoting literacy and social mobility, I was struck by the opening sentence of his last paragraph:

It's claimed that many local councillors don't own a library card, or if they do they haven't used it in years.

It struck me that should I ever get visited by any local election hopefuls, I will be asking the two questions that I posed at the beginning of the post. For my feeling is that if they don't use the service or even care enough to furnish themselves with a library card, how safe would it really be under their management as councillors.

Maybe worth asking the local candidates in your area too?

And in case you're wondering which I'm sure you're not, I've had a Haringey library card since I moved here in the last century and one of books I have taken out of Stroud Green and Harringay Library this month is Orlando Figes' Crimea.
