Disappearing street trees
The two lime trees at the end of Langham Road & West Green Road have disappeared. They were a natural oasis for wildlife & residents among all the tarmac, bricks & pollution. I'm so sad that this has been done without any local consultation with neighbouring residents. Does anyone know any more about this & when replacement trees will be planted?
I've tried to attach/paste a google image, but can't because of copyright restrictions. do have a look at Street view images, the trees are in full bloom & look beautiful.

We live very close to that end of Langham Road and definitely weren't consulted about this, and have no idea why it was removed. Another tree 50 yards away was also removed after it died within a year of being planted, complete waste of money.

In my experience - now I admit, two years out of date - the Council's staff who maintain trees were one part of the system which worked well. With people in post who were knowledgeable and really passionate about their jobs.
On these particular trees, you might find your local residents' association helpful, and also consider emailing your three local ward councillors.
Apologies if you've already seen it. If not, there's a webpage which gives the schedule of works on street trees. The webpage says that: "The council will not remove a tree or undertake unnecessary pruning works where there is no good arboricultural reason". Also as far as I know, despite the cuts, the total number of street trees in Haringey is still increasing.

New tree on Green Lanes opposite the Salisbury was ripped down by traders worried that it blocked the sight of their shop.

Name and shame. If this is true! Destroying publicly funded street trees is a crime against the neighbourhood and the peolpe you serve. Will that sort of action actually bring the punters in? It is a stupid reaction as the trees will actually enhance the area and that is better for business unless the type of busines you run depends on the place remaining the same! NAME AND SHAME.

If it's the tree opposite The Salisbury, it was broken in a car accident where the car ran onto the pavement and into the front door of one of the flats above the shops. Where did your information come from, Richard?

In which case, shouldn't the Council be seeking to recover the cost of replacing that tree from the car's insurance company?

Then that is dereliction of duty. All Council workers are expected to protect public funds and property and accidental damage by a driver would be covered by their insurance. That's kind of the point of insurance!
