Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I saw a poster for this on the tube the other day and I thought this exhibition would be right up the street of some HoL regulars!

Hosted by the wonderful Wellcome Collection, it sounds like it's worth a looksee.

And wait up, HoL rubbish fans, that's not all. It's part of a Dirt Season! And there's even a dedicated Flickr pool.

I like that you think of me, Hugh,  when you're out even if its only when you spot things about dirt and rubbish :0 and not surprisingly Alan Stanton can be found in that Flickr group!
Thanks for the reminder, Hugh. I'd planned to go along to this. Its starting point is the work of the anthropologist Mary Douglas and her classic book Purity and Danger.

We went to this free exhibition yesterday and I recommend a visit before it closes on 31 August.

Please don't be put off by the vacuous YouTube video or my reference to Mary Douglas. The exhibition rolls up its sleeves and shovels the topic. You'll discover the origin of the word tosh and see photos of mudlarks. That Joseph Bazalgette the sewer engineer originally accepted 'miasma' as the cause of cholera. There's the ground breaking Peckam Health Centre, and a video from an Indian Toilet Museum. With art made from dust; and a jewelled broom.

It finishes with a hill of garbage, with thought provoking film and interviews from Fresh Kills landfill in Staten Island.

More on the Wellcome Trust website.  Have other HoL members visited? What did you think?
