Diagonal crossing for Wood Green Junction
A diagonal pedestrian crossing is being introduced in Wood Green to help commuters directly cross over from the underground station to the Morrison's side of the High Road.
The crossing will be built with £400K provided by TfL to improve pedestrian accessibility at this busy junction.
The proposed scheme includes:
- a diagonal pedestrian crossing from Wood Green Station
- stop lines for cyclists on all approaches to the signal junction
- improvements to the street lighting at the junction
- new pavement surfaces at selected areas
- extension of taxi parking on the High Road
- additional cycle parking
A public exhibition will be held on 4 February 2010 in the Gallery at Wood Green Library between 5pm and 8pm outlining the proposals.
Officers from the council will be present to answer all queries related
to the scheme.
The work is scheduled for February 2010 and will take approximately 16 weeks to complete. An assessment of the changes to the crossing found there would be no significant impact on traffic.

Wow, £400K for a crossing, I wonder what has happened about our consultation on Wightman Road? It's all gone quiet and I expected it too be completed by the end of the financial year too :os

Presumably this is another scheme like the New Oxford Circus.
I'm not pooh-poohing the plan. I want our borough to be receptive to new thinking and taking up good ideas. It's just that having had family members and friends - including children - die in road accidents . . . well, I'm cautious.
