This from Haringey Council, Monday 10 November 2008:
Haringey Council and Sainsbury's have decided to terminate negotiations with developer Inner Circle for the Hornsey Depot site off Hornsey High Street. The decision follows a revised offer for the site from the developer
Plans for a supermarket, private and affordable housing will now be discussed and options explored on how the plans can be taken forward with Sainsbury's, which owns part of the site.
"We've worked hard with Inner Circle and Sainsbury's to move this scheme forward", said Cllr Charles Adje, Haringey cabinet member for resources.
"But it would not be in the interests of local people to proceed at this time with an offer which we consider does not represent the best deal for the council.
"We have a legal duty to obtain the best possible price when disposing of sites, and in the current market we need to keep our sales programme under close review to make sure that residents do not lose out.
"We will now be exploring options with Sainsbury's on new approaches to achieve the regeneration of the area."
Sainsbury's spokesperson, Richard Haynes said:"Sainsbury's look forward to exploring options with Haringey Council, to deliver the best possible scheme for the Borough."
Options for the site will be discussed at the council's Cabinet in December.
