Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

The Metropolitan Police have issued a statement after two men died in a collision early this morning on the Seven Sisters road in North London.

Shortly before 0200hrs on Friday, 29 March, Islington officers on routine patrol in a police vehicle became suspicious of a car that appeared to make off at speed when passed in the opposite direction by police.

After several minutes searching for the Audi, the officers sighted it several hundred metres away and they sought to catch up.

The Audi was driven through a red light and a short time later it clipped a white van and subsequently collided with a bridge on Seven Sisters Road near to the junction with St Ann's Road in Haringey.

Two male passengers in the Audi, both believed to be aged in their late 20s or early 30s, were seriously injured.

Officers gave CPR prior to the arrival of ambulances, but both were pronounced dead at the scene. Enquiries continue to establish the identity of the two men.

In the last two weeks I've seen a massive jump in police driving in pursuit at crazy speeds. It's a wonder this doesn't happen more often. I live very near where this happened, and I'd already seen two lots of (I would estimate) 50mph+ driving on minor roads by multiple vehicles. It always chills me because the margin of error is miniscule.

Poor old Audi, they really are the new BMW...

Scary stuff. We live just round the corner, but I wasn't around today. Did anyone notice any disruption to traffic on Friday or had it all been cleared by then?

Seven Sisters Road and St Ann's Road were partially closed yesterday morning. I walked from St Ann's Road up to Tottenham Hale and it was oddly serene, there being only one or two cars which had sneaked onto Seven Sisters Road and were being moved along by the (many) police. There were also a few TV cameras down on the corner filming news segments. By the time we walked back (around 12.30pm) everything was back to normal.

Here's a Pic:

Gosh. Implies the cop car took a bit of damage too. This had all gone (except for a patch of what I thought was detergent but I guess was fire extinguisher foam) by about 10.30am when I went past.

We must have missed this by minutes. On our way to the airport in the early hours, a police car pulled across and blocked our path as we went down St Ann's Road. Glad we weren't in the way when it was happening. Nasty business.
