Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!
Dead fish in the New River
I noticed this afternoon that the New River between Hornsey Station and Wightman Road is full of dead fish and crayfish (floating on the surface). Is this just to do with the hot weather or should I report it to someone? And who? Thanks.

“Fish are dying across London in this heatwave. Why? Because the hot dry weather has allowed toxic chemicals to build up on our roads. Then, when it rains, this road runoff goes straight into the nearest river. Oxygen levels crash, & fish literally cannot breathe.”

The New River is protected from run-off. The water is collected from the river Lea above Hertford Lock and channelled separately from the river into London. Being primarily a drinking water supply there should be no other water sources entering the river except from the rain above. The cause is more likely lack of oxygen and some sort of toxic bloom which the heat and sunshine will exasperate.
