Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Remember in 2003 when they were whipped into war despite a majority of their constituents being against? It cost Barbara Roche her seat.

See David Lammy's reasons (thanks CLP members!) here.

And Catherine West's twitter feed here.

Whatever you may think of the current Labour leadership, something being more democratic means that more people take part in the decision and this is a good thing because we get better decisions.

We shouldn't be arming anybody: if anything, we should be disarming them

OK, you put your gun down first eh?

I don't see how arming our neighbours is going to help. Arming Syria's Kurdish neighbours might work better...

Oh, that's what I meant. Pedant. :)

Through terrorist action I am FAR more likely to lose a friend than lose my own life.

That said, if I lived in the middle east I'd be a bit fed up with bombs by now. No doubt it's as much post traumatic stress disorder as religion driving them on.

According to Mr Cameron, those of us who oppose the escalation of bombing in Syria are terrorist sympathisers.
This polling is from over a week ago. Public opinion has moved on considerably since.

As much as I dislike the way some of the hard left conduct themselves in politics (slightly feral, is that racist of me?) I can't help thinking that Stella Creasy's objections to threats of deselection are a bit ridiculous considering her initial support for just that solution for MPs that were naughty. I bet she regrets that now.

There is a lot of hoohah in the media about the 'hard left' and threats of deselection. It seems that opposing the bombing of cities in countries which have not invaded us or bombed us (that's a war crime BTW) wanting the end of privatisation in the nhs , and opposing the dogma of 'austerity' are enough to qualify anyone for this demographic. Whereas people who want to bomb, kill, slash the public sector and lay waste the Welfare State are 'moderates'. And who is threatening anyone with deselection anyway? Lousy MPs should be deselected ... It

I've been to a few "rallies" to see what all the fuss is about and the rhetoric has been impolite, to say the least.

John, the Kurds won't go into Syria according to Frank Gardener (BBC's Security Correspondent), at least not as far as Raqqah because it's not seen as part of Kurdistan. The 70,000 soldiers that Cameron thinks could take on IS don't exist under one general but, are instead dozens of different loose groups with their own agendas & battles. They're probably not particularly interested in taking on IS.

On another angle to this debate I saw an analysis of the so-called sustained bombing of IS by the 'coalition' (which apparently numbers some 65 countries doing different things) which showed there are about 2 'sorties' per hour against IS. This was compared to other wars which largely showed round the clock bombing. I'm not even sure anyone is serious about taking on IS, except of course (as you mention) the Kurds. The Americans have however announced another unit of Special Forces will be targeting IS in Iraq & Syria.

If they can't beat the Kurds they'll just go back home.
