Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Haringey is one of seven North London boroughs due to take part in the second annual 'Watch Your Waste Week' between 19th and 25th October, where people can discover how little rubbish it is possible to produce over seven days.

What is it?

Residents are being asked to join Haringey's 'Zero Waste Challenge'. The challenge is to produce as little waste as possible during 'Watch Your Waste Week', by reducing, reusing and recycling as much as you can. You dont have to reach zero, it is the taking part that matters, but you may be surprised at just how little you can throw away when you make that special effort.

What do I need to do?

The week before the challenge, participants record the amount of rubbish they are throwing out. At the end of the week, participants weigh their rubbish or count their bin bags again to see if there has been any reduction, and send in the results on their record sheet. Participants can take part at any time until 25 October by downloading a free challengers pack, which is packed full of hints to help reduce waste and top tips for a successful challenge.

Was this done before?

Yes, last year’s challenge was a big success with Haringey households cutting their waste by an average of 52%. One of last year’s challengers, Mrs E, recorded her efforts here
