Apologies for striking a political note, but H onliners cannot have failed to see / hear reference to the activities of the late Cyril Smith, MP.
He was made an MBE by the Labour Party and then became a Liberal Peer, despite continual allegations as to his involvement in abuse of children in Rochdale care homes over a number of years, dating back to the 1960's.
It is further alleged that he was a visitor to the Elm Guest House in London, as was Jimmy Saville, it has been alleged.
Could I ask that readers email Lynne Featherstone, the Hornsey Lib Dem MP, to ask her when her party intends to announce an enquiry into these allegations as whoever knew about these allegations at the time - and clearly, people did - has a responsibility to the surviving victims and the rest of society.
Thanks for reading this.

Hope the above covers this.

Steve, it's helpful you've set the problem out as you see it. But please say a little more about the lessons to be drawn, and if you have any practical proposals for solutions.
The "Can we hope this Goes Away, " strategy is not confined to politics, or showbiz, or any other area of activity. Nor are any of us immune from using "weasel words". Although sometimes aren't these about not rushing to judgement? Trying instead to remain fair and open-minded during the investigations into people's different accounts. Innocent until proved guilty is still a sound principle.
Jimmy Saville was 'innocent until proven guilty' as a result of which, countless young people were abused over decades. The point here is that organisations which are profoundly undemocratic, like the BBC and the three major parties, are geared to defending themselves rather than examining accusations. The LibDems have been badly damaged by their manifesto lies and their participation in this dreadful govt. The Cyril Smith affair is just one example of brushing the facts under the carpet. All three major parties are guilty of this and all are more or less hated by the public. But the LibDems are likely to be wiped out soon for the crimes of their leadership. Not really any point in them anyway......
