I’m sure many of you would have seen this. Looks like there has been a traffic accident this morning on Green Lanes just by the Roseberry Gardens southbound bus stop. The eagle eyed among you will notice that the van is perched on the lawn facing the incoming traffic, which looks like a pretty remarkable feat as the driver would have crossed the opposite lane at some speed. [Edit - can’t upload the photo but you get the idea]
Unrelated to this, Just a few yards on the opposite side of the road there was a dislodged licence plate (not the van’s) next to a flattened sign post.
Luckily it looks like there were no casualties. It could have been a massacre if it happened in the context of rush hour pedestrian flow.
This whole stretch is a disaster waiting to happen. I will take a creeping queue of pissed off drivers on Wightman over the odds of something like this any day. Speed does kill, so well done to the council for instituting the changes to Wightman. A few speed cameras on Green Lanes would also do very nicely and I’m sure will pay for themselves in record time.

Green Lanes is a disaster. Crossing at the lights is a terrifying experience with children. If only the council had the courage to overrule the traders. And in fact I think better cycle and bus access would be beneficial to them.
Right! It seems like speed limits and stopping at red lights is totally optional by the crossing at Falkland Road. I wish there was a camera there - the number of times people skip the lights is insane compared to anywhere else I've lived.
And bicycles
But I wouldn't say that's the " biggest problem ".
I'm terrified of speeding mopeds / scooters / motorcycles coming by on the left of buses or on the wrong side of the road, especially as more and more people seem to be treating traffic lights as optional.
But yesterday I was glared at by a cyclist when I was pushing my daughter's buggy at the pedestrian crossing near Mattison Road because she had to slow down for us. She nearly hit my wife as she cycled past anyway, even while the light was still red for traffic.
I just don't get it...
Lorries stopping on the crossing, bicycles, scooters, cars - it seems to be universal. I, too, have never lived anywhere within such little regard for a traffic light, specifically the one near Mattison Road.
But I think the heart of the problem is the parking on Green Lanes. Cars maneuver all over the place, including the pavement, slowing traffic and creating a wild west atmosphere where the normal rules of the road don't apply. Plus vans unloading and delivery bikes flying in and out.
I'd like to see parking reduced almost to nothing, proper enforcement with cameras, and a decent bus lane installed. I mean,a bike lane would be great too, but can't see it happening.
Because they're well connected with the Councillors. Some, like the man who runs MediChem by the bridge becomes a labour councillor and that's why they have their stranglehold.
For the record he also drives a huge black range rover with a private number plate.
Truth. They are super well connected. I have stopped going to his pharmacy since they messed up a prescription for weeks on end, and wrote letters of support for the now defunct, illegal Sira restaurant launch.
Bus and bike lanes are frequently the same thing. The one southbound works perfectly well when it's in effect.
"The one southbound works perfectly well when it's in effect."
What, on Green Lanes, between the arena and the salisbury? Are you serious? It's full of parked cars!
Between 7-10am when it’s in effect it does - it’s rare I don’t get a clear run from the Salisbury to at least as far as the Green Lanes station bus stop when you then have to do a bit of creative merging.
But I’ll grant you outside of that it’s a free for all. Northbound the parking is a disgrace regardless of time of day, day of week, colour of sky, etc.
