Creating new interactive minibeast habitats to help children engage and get closer to nature. Alongside, placing woodchip along footpaths and creating formal steps on the upper path. A Green Hub on Green Lanes.

Meadow Management along the Parkland Walk
Continuing our winter work of digging out bramble and sycamore saplings from one of the few open areas along the Parkland Walk, a former historic railway line that used to link Finsbury Park to Alexandra Palace. This will help encourage the area to turn back to meadow, an important habitat for a number of species.

Magical Meadows in Lordship Rec
Sowing wildflower seeds in wild area of park to create a colourful ‘half-moon’ meadow, that will benefit bees and butterflies. Alongside, creating dead hedges in park’s spinney, an important nature area managed by the Friends Wildlife Group. The large regeneration of the park has recently been completed and it’s a great opportunity to see the new Eco Hub building.

Harmony Gardens Green Gym Launch
Grand launch of the community garden in Lordship Recreation Ground, growing a number of vegetable produce for Broadwater Farm Community Centre’s community kitchen project (and enough for some home cooking) and creating a new wildlife education area. Working in partnership with Back 2 Earth and the Friends of Harmony Gardens, this is an exciting opportunity to get involved in helping to develop this green space. Green Gym Volunteers will also get a discount in the community kitchen. Followed by a Wildlife Walk around the park by the Lordship Wildlife Group at 1.30pm.

Wildlife Corridors at Markfield Park
Creating a new wildlife corridor along the edge of the park and the River Lee, an important migration route for birds. Removing grass turf from the area in preparation for sowing with wildflower seeds, which have been donated by Friends of the Earth.

Wildlife Corridors at Markfield Park
Continuing our creation of a new wildlife corridor along the edge of the park and the River Lee. Sowing a large wildflower meadow with a mixture of seeds such as Yarrow, Oxeye Daisy and Ladies Bedstraw. Also, some sowing in the community nature garden. Make your mark in Markfield on the 3rd Thursday of every month.

Wildflower Gardens at Palace Gates
Sowing a small area of this hidden oasis, that was previously cleared by The Conservation Volunteers. Alongside, other activities to help enhance the green space as a nature trail for local schoolchildren. This is a unique opportunity to visit a section of the old railway line that currently has no public access, which used to link Noel Park to Alexandra Palace.

Fancy Footpaths at Lordship Rec
Creating drainage to help alleviate flooding along the woodland footpath, this is an opportunity to learn the technique of building French drains which involves digging a ditch and filling it with recycled rubble and stones. This work will continue on Thursday 2 May.

Harmony Gardens Green Gym
April is a busy month in the vegetable calendar for sowing beetroot, peas, beans, broccoli, cabbage, chard, leeks, spinach and lettuce, and for planting onions and asparagus outdoors. Join The Conservation Volunteers every Friday to produce vegetables for Broadwater Farm Community Centre’s community kitchen project (and enough for some home cooking) and to create a new wildlife education area.
Working in partnership with Back 2 Earth and the Friends of Harmony Gardens, this is an exciting opportunity to get involved in helping to develop this green space. Back 2 Earth and Friends of Harmony Gardens also have volunteer sessions every Tuesday, 10am-4pm.
