Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Message from Michael Bury at the BTCV

We have been asked to provide volunteers to build 100mtrs of fence around the new bike track in Lordship Rec-The Lordship Loop. The loop passes though a spinney which is one of the wildlife habitats being maintained in the park. The fence/railing is being built to discourage cyclists from going off road and in to the trees and bushes.Below is the outline of works for the day, if you think anyone you know would be interested, please feel free to pass it on.

Lordship Loop (New Bike Track)- This great new track is going to be completed by the contractors within the next couple of weeks. Back To Earth have been given the job of finding volunteers to help with the construction of a low wooden railing/fence around part of the track.

The Job-

  • Fixing vertical posts in pre dug holes.
  • Mixing cement for fixing post in place.
  • Cutting horizontal rails to size.
  • Fixing horizontal rails to the top of the posts.
  • Weather proofing the structure with a paint on coating.

We need 10-15 volunteers, available for the whole day, 9.30-4.30 on Friday 21st October.
Back To Earth will provide any tools and equipment needed, Vinci (the contractors) are providing the materials and some supervision on the day. We would like to see as many volunteers from across all stakeholder groups as possible as this is one of the first opportunities to do something physical together within the construction phase of the project. If you would like to take part could you let me know in advance by emailing info@back2earth.org.uk using the subject line LOOP FENCE or call 0208-808-1892 and leave your details.

Back To Earth will also be providing volunteers with refreshments and lunch on the day.

Message from Back to Earth re this event:

"As of this morning I was informed that the materials for the fence building have will not arrive on time, so I am having to send the following email out to all those I have contacted previously. Not a great start, but these things happen sometimes. I will hopefully have a revised date by tomorrow.

Kindest regards, Glynis Kirkwood,

Volunteering and Trainee Co-ordinator, Back to Earth Projects."
