Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Does anyone know when there are any community clean-ups organised in our area (Harringay, not sure if needed, but Tottenham more obviously)? www.riotcleanup.co.uk seems to be down. I know we'll have to wait for the road to open again but I imagine there is lots that could be done at this stage. They've already started in Hackney, Lewisham etc.

Thanks for organising all this. I agree money may soon be the thing rather than help in kind. Anyone know of a local charity or organisation that could handle funds ?  Maybe I'll ask the Tottenham Civic Society, or the vicar of Holy Trinity who organised the 'Vigil for Hope' last night Monday.

'Retreads of 1985' - excuse me, but I do think the views of experienced community workers like Clasford Stirling and Stafford Scott are invaluable. See Stafford's piece in the Guardian today. I was also around in 1985, having moved to a street not half a mile from Broadwater Farm in 1983 and followed the aftermath of that riot closely. At the risk of boring people, see my reflections on the links between then and now which will appear in the next couple of days on http://haringeygreens.blogspot.com

I have cycled around and across Tottenham High Road today and yesterday and everything is calm though very dismal. One can get around by bike and tube and the overground from Crouch Hill or Green Lanes to South Tottenham.

Beware the robbers are apparently seen gathering in Crouch End tonight, according to a worried friend who just phoned me from Weston Park.

See you tomorrow morning  at Bruce Grove.

Bruce Grove Stn tomorrow 8.30!
I think that the clean up is off. A FB page has been set up by the Tottenham Clean Up campaign here and they have been told that a clean up can't be done on the High Road yet and other places are ok. They do need volunteers at the Tottenham Leisure centre to sort donations though.
Thanks Liz. As a non-Facebooker this is the best place for me to get up to date info. Will go to TGLC instead of Bruce Grove then!
Will keep an eye on  relevant FB pages and update.

I've just walked the length of Tottnm High Road, as far as the carpet shop, and back. It is still very closed and I cant see it opening tomorrow/this week. There are burnt buildings being demolished, notably the carpet shop, and others that are dangerous and will either have to come down, or be shored up. The broken glass etc has already been cleared so no sweeping to do. There will be a metaphorical cleanup needed if I may be so obtuse, when it is opened, so ideas for ways to do that could start here - pref not too mystical for my taste. Dance along it?

PS When I say walked along the high road, I mean I passed the length of it, mostly via side streets. Rather creepy coming back at midnight on empty roads that I dont know.  Will blog some photos soon, inc those of the burnt-out William Hills which (some ) people may enjoy.

pamish* Got back home few hours ago from interviewing shopkeepers that have been attacked/looted right there on Tottenham High road .Working on this footage to get it available asap. Would appreciate help from anyone if they know 'Final Cut Pro Express' software. Tea & cake for those that can help me.
