In a moment of calm yesterday lunchtime we briefly saw some lovely looking clouds over the Ladder. They were only present for a few moments. Anyone got any ideas what they are.
I am pretty sure they are a form of Cirrus cloud, a thin layer of ice cloud in the cold stratosphere. Anyone got anything else to add?

There have been some great skies over Harringay of late. I took this pre-sunset snap a few weeks back.
With our local connection to clouds, I hope you get an answer to your question! Failing that, you could try the International Clouds Atlas. It seems to suggest the following:
Following a sunny and warm afternoon, Cirrus fibratus spread rapidly across the sky from the west in advance of an occluded front.
I couldn't easily match the formation in my snap.
Thanks Hugh, we did wonder if it was an indicator of bad weather coming in...
....but another quick dip into Google suggests mine were cirrus castellanus.
(I had no idea quite how many types, species - yes they call them species - and varieties of clouds there are).
I don't find fantasist conspiracy-theory paranoia particularly interesting
Those interested could also read this - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chemtrail_conspiracy_theory
I like the comment at the end - "the conspiracy web sites think the phenomenon started only a decade ago and involves an evil scheme in which 40,000 commercial pilots and air traffic controllers are in on the plot to poison their own children."
