Cityread London is a campaign to spread the love of reading and books to the widest possible audience throughout the capital.

To celebrate the bicentenary of Dickens’s birth, the first ever Cityread London will focus on Oliver Twist.

All 33 London boroughs will be hosting a range of activities throughout April 2012. To find out about Cityread events across London, please visit www.cityreadlondon.org.uk.

By choosing one book for the whole city to read we can bring Londoners together in a series of special events.

Haringey Libraries will have themed displays with books, talking books and DVDS linking the novels with the social and political debates of the time, and the relevance of Dickens today. Our reading groups will be discussing Oliver Twist in their April meeting, including the Bengali Readers and Writers’ Group who will read a translated version.

For events in libraries, check out the individual library listing.

A talk about Oliver Twist and the Poor Child in visual art will be held at the Marcus Garvey Library.
