Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Christmas Scam - a word to the wise (from, it appears, the gullible!)

With thanks to David for tipping me the wink on this one:

This information has been passed to me by one of the Community Beat Officers, have been made aware of it by a resident in his area. Although PDS is named here, it is worth saying that the name may change, but if you do get a 'Delivery Notice' and you are suspicious of the telephone number or the company - check the phone book for the company. If they are not in the phone book, please do not phone, but contact Royal Mail Fraud or PhonePay Plus (formerly ICSTIS). Regards Fiona Blenkiron

Postal Scam

Can you circulate this around especially as Christmas is fast approaching - it has been confirmed by Royal Mail. The Trading Standards Office are making people aware of the following scam:

A card is posted through your door from a company called PDS (Parcel Delivery Service)suggesting that they were unable to deliver a parcel and that you need to contact them on 0906 6611911 (a premium rate number). DO NOT call this number, as this is a mail scam originating from Belize.

If you call the number and you start to hear a recorded message you will already have been billed £15 for the phone call.

If you do receive a card with these details, then please contact Royal Mail Fraud on 02072396655 or PhonePay PlusS (the premium rate service regulator).

Bet I'd fall for this one.
Why doesn't ICSTIS block the number?
Apparently they have! There's a number checker on the site - on entering the number above, you get the following:

Number checker
PhonepayPlus has the following information about the number 09066611911.

If you receive a copy of the email warning you about the alleged scam, please do not forward it to others. Instead, please forward this information from PhonepayPlus.

* This service costs - This line is now closed (plus any phone network surcharges - check with your phone company for full details).

You live and learn - my apologies folks!
No problem - it even has a write-up on snopes....

This comes up every few months and I think is one of these apparently pointless phoney ( oops pun ! ) scares. If you phone the Royal Mail Fraud, they will quite rightly point out that, if it exists, it is a telephone scam, not postal, and they are tired of people enquiring about it.

Doesn't hurt to be careful, I suppose, but why do the originators bother circulating this junk ?
