Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I bought an MHL adaptor on Amazon recently. When it came it was clearly from a Chinese shipping agent.

I am conscious that I do not want to simply plug this thing into my phone or IT equipment, as (frankly) I am nervous about it being infected with something that may affect my IT at home. Is there any way I can tell if there is anything I need be nervous about with this product, or if it is 'clean', shall we say? Any checks I can carry out?

Not sure why the nerves Justin. You'd be hard put to find much in that category that WASNT made in China. The fact that it came directly from there doesn't mean much. Don't see how it could infect anything...its only an adaptor. Did you check the product reviews?

I have a memory that I had read that some hardwear from non-verifiable sources can often come pre-loaded with harmful soft wear (think memory sticks with viruses etc).

The Chinese worry is that I simple do not know the supplier from adam. I did not check the reviews, more fool me…

Hi Justin,

Yes, there's always a possibility of something like a memory stick being harmful, but for a device to be harmful, it has to have the ability to store something harmful. I'm pretty certain an adaptor can't store anything, just tranfers data between devices.

I think your biggest concern should be the fact that it may just not work, like the reviews on Amazon seem to suggest. Shouldn't cause any problems just trying it though.

Yes, I should pay more attention to the reviews. My mistake!!!

As James is the resident expert perhaps he can set my mind at rest? Wadayasay?
