Hi there, surprisingly there isn't a huge amount here on HoL - I tried a similar search a few months ago (before deciding for a nursery). What I can say is that you can find listings of childminders online - search for childminders and Haringey - or by calling the council, and then you can contact them and check their references. I found my previous childminder this way (in Stamford Hill before I moved here, so no good for you probably) and was really happy with her for 2 years. You can also check their Ofsted reports, but they are reluctant to let you do that before you sign a contract, which is slightly annoying, if understandable.
For nurseries, there's:
Schools - nurseries, local: - forum - blogs - kids stuff group
Please do add more if it's lacking, or let Liz (Mrs Kidstuff) know and she'll add it.
It wasn't a criticism - just a fact that there is much more on nurseries (in fact this forum helped me chose one) than on childminders and babysitters where there is very little. I am sure this will change over time - or perhaps it's just that there aren't many childminders around here?
I think I've given my contribution on the childminder information front as ultimately getting the list from the Council might be the best option anyway. Even if someone reccommends a brilliant childminder, they may not have vacancies, so you may end up having to get the list anyway.
This is a good place to start. And here is a list of childminders in N8 and N4.
Thanks for giving me a nudge all, have added a link to the childcare pages on the council website to the useful websites list in Kidstuff group.
You might also pop into your local children's centre and ask- the Ladder Children's Centre in Pemberton or the Woodlands Park CC in Woodlands Park Road - some have boards for childminders to advertise vacancies.
