Saturday night saw chaos on Green Lanes with massed police arriving and a closure of the road.
The Kurdish newspaper ANF reported on Sunday, "After the Turkish national team's defeat in the quarter-final match against the Netherlands, supporters of the "Grey Wolves" attacked the Kurdish Community Centre in London."
The paper goes on,
"The group marched in front of the community centre in the Haringey (sic) district, yelling and showing the so-called wolf salute and shouting racist slogans. Individual people waved the Turkish flag and a flag with three crescent moons on a green background. The flag, which served as a war flag in the Ottoman Empire, is also one of the popular symbols of right-wing extremist Turks.
"The London police were on site with large forces and formed a circle around Kurdish activists who held a sit-in on the street in front of the association. There were several attempts by Grey Wolves to overcome the barrier and attack the sit-in."
By way of explanation ANF says,
"The trigger for the riots by Turkish fans is said to have been the decisive goal that made the final score 2-1 for the Netherlands in the 76th minute."
More about the incident that apparently sparked events in Harringay is available on the RUDAW media network.
ANF's explanation of the Grey Wolves is as follow:
"The supporters of the fascist “Ülkücü movement” (“Idealists”) are called “Grey Wolves”. ... Their symbol is the “wolf salute”, in which the middle and ring fingers touch the tip of the thumb, while the index and little fingers are stretched out straight. In the ideology of the “Grey Wolves”, Turkishness is considered superior."
A Wikipedia page on the Turkish Grey Wolves is available here.
The incident was noticed by AdamVietnam who posted on HoL the following photo of police gathering at the other end of Green Lanes, opposite St Ann's Road.

… the Turkish far right have been emboldened by the agreement signed between the UK and Turkish governments last November when the police mounted a raid on the Kurdish community centre…
“Last night, the Kurdish People’s Democratic Assembly in Haringey, London, was subject to nothing short of an aggressive invasion by the police. There were no warrants and no legitimate reason for the aggression and violence that they conducted themselves with against a community of civilians celebrating a cultural event. This invasion by the Metropolitan Police comes only two days after UK defence minister Grant Shapps and Turkish counterpart Yaşar Güler held a meetingagreeing to “enhance” defence and security cooperation.
As a result of foreign influence on parliament, we are seeing an increase in the number of people within our communities being arrested through the liberally applied ‘Schedule 7 of the Terrorism Act‘ (2000), including last week when our community was subject to another aggressive display by the police as they swarmed a small protest, outnumbering the protesters themselves and separating parents from the children, then interrogating them in front of their helpless and crying children.”

Hopefully the police were ready and had a heads up after the start of violence for their previous game. Even though they won. Thanks for the article, now understand why it kicked off
Or the more mainstream explanation....British and Turkish governments share intelligence and coordinate actions against terrorist organisations. That is, doing their job!
