Cellars
Having recently moved to the ladders we are now the owners of a cellar. The current condition is very poor, and very damp. Although we dont intend to use the space for anything the damp is affecting the rest of the flat - ie damp clothes and bedding etc...
We we're wondering if anyone has any experience in improving the condition of their cellar?
We are almost 100% sure that it is just the damp air from the cellar affecting the rest of the flat, as we have a damp proof course already.
Any advise on tanking, ventilation or convertion would be greatly appriciated. also any before and after photos would be interesting.
Finally any recommendations for tradesmen that are of good repute?

I would also be interested in this same sort of information as we are considering getting our cellar dug out and converted into a couple of rooms.
Any advice on this would be greatly received.

Our cellar has been VERY damp for the past 6 months or so. Surprising considering the state of the lawn and I wondered if there was a leak but Thames Water are onto those pretty quick.
I don't think it's your cellar causing the damp, it looks well ventilated.

I know a reputable 'timber and damp' company that provide free estimates for our clients, they are a friendly and professional bunch in my opinion (otherwise I wouldn't recommend them).
I would be happy to forward some contact details if you send me a direct message. They should be able to advise on tanking and offer an idea on costs etc. If not I am sure they will know the best people for the job!

Just moved into a house on the ladder. Wondering in fact whether i have moved into your house, the state of my cellar could not be more similar to pics shown! Be very keen to hear how you got on, any recommendations etc.

This looks a typical Ladder coal cellar, same as ours. Ours is damp but doesn't affect the rest of the house as it is below the level of the damp-proof course and well ventilated to the front. It would be worth having the damp-proof course checked.
