Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Carpentry/construction business between Stanhope and Rutland Gardens.

Is there some kind of carpentry or construction business going on between these two roads? There's a near constant noise of a circular saw and a nailgun. Much more, I think, than you'd get with home DIY or even a major house refurb. I think the nail gun is new in the last few weeks, but the circular saw seems to be a daily presence.

They are probably building a shed in the back yard capable of providing "accommodation".

Two houses having loft conversions etc on Stanhope is the probable cause

Hi there

The saw is something I've noticed for years and have always thought it is to do with the cutting of huge slabs of meat for the kebab/restaurant places. If you monitor it, usually takes place in the mornings. By the afternoon, the smell of kebabs comes along.

I can add that the past 3 or 4 weeks have seen a lot of construction noise as two adjoining houses in Stanhope (near the Green lanes end) are having major refurbs, looks like loft conversions plus extensions at the back. they are a hive of activity so that will explain a lot of what is going on. There definitely has been more noise.

I agree about the saw having been going on for years. I only notice it occasionally, but when I think about it, it is a constant. But I'm east of Essex Gardens, so I'd be surprised if butcher noise (ugh) or even the construction on the houses at the top reached here so loudly. Maybe it's just a trick of acoustics.

Could be. I notice that noise like banging, sawing etc does travel. Quite a few other bits of work going on around our streets lately so perhaps its that. You never know what folk are up to!

Hope it doesnt get on your nerves too much
