I think the Council did a giveaway a few years back. Other than that I don't know if the Green Routes Nursery by Manor House Gate does it. It's run by the Metropolitan Support Trust who you can contact on 020 3535 4600. Periodically there are other compost giveaways round the borough. We try and give notice of as many as we can.

There is a mountain of compost in Green Routes. As far as I know, you are welcome to take a shovel and a sack and help yourself.

Thanks Liz. I'll have a go.

You can get the same compost delivered from London Waste directly (who deliver 15 tonne+ loads to parks and community gardens). Their Ecopark compost is made from the compost waste collected from our doorsteps- so it's definitely peat free! If you're growing your veg from it, you'll have ultra low food miles too (it's made in Edmonton)...

You don't have to get 15 tonnes delivered to your home- we had 20x 30 litre bags of lovely well rotted compost delivered by London Waste for £60 delivery cost, and even carried through to the back garden! You can also get it delivered 'loose' in bigger loads (1 tonne+) but they apparently need to do a scoping visit first, which seemed a bit over-complicated.
