Calling all older Haringey gardeners...school gardening clubs need you

Calling all men or women aged 50+, living in Haringey, who might be interested in helping out at a school gardening club for a couple of hours a week You would need to have some experience of growing food. Please read the information below and pass it on to anyone who you think might be interested.

Age Concern Haringey and NHS Haringey are working together on a ‘Healthy Schools’ intergenerational gardening programme to link older residents with gardening clubs in local schools. They are seeking men and women aged 50+ who have some experience of growing food, and who can spare a couple of hours a week, to become volunteers in gardening clubs at primary and secondary school schools around the borough

Each volunteer will be placed in a school that is convenient for them to get to. At the school they will help out in a weekly gardening club, working alongside staff and pupils, to help the children learn how to grow vegetables and fruit. The volunteers will share their interest and skills in growing food with the children, thus helping to foster a better understanding of where food comes from and what constitutes a healthy diet.

Volunteers should have some experience of growing food but do not need to have any previous experience of working with children. An introductory training session will prepare volunteers for working in a school gardening club setting.
