Does anyone know where I can buy paste food colouring and modeling tools for making marzipan figures for cake decorating? I trekked all the way out to Lakeland at Brent cross yesterday and came up empty handed.
I'm making this cake -- see photo and need supplies
I assume you've looked online already, or are in a hurry, but these guys are pretty well stocked. I've also found that tools for clay modelling (obviously bought new and not previously used for clay!!) are pretty good for this kind of thing, so you might try an art shop for the tools.
There is a great shop in Dalston which has everything, I haven't been there for ages so best check it's still open before heading over. Looking online it seems they have a sister shop in Kilburn. Details below
The Dalston Party Party Shop
9-13 Ridley Road
Dalston
London
E8 2NP
Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I've noticed a sharp decline of these types of shops on the high street so I'm really trying to avoid the online retailers. Anyway I ended up going to the Party Shop on Ridley road. Thanks for the recommendation Takaokagiejin!
Despite its strange name the shop stocks everything would-be cake decorators need at reasonable prices. If anyone's interested the shop also conducts cake decorating courses-- four sessions for £25. I'm considering signing up.
try blue ribbon - its a website... (can't quite remember teh link though) and also there is apparently a Jane Asher baking shop in chelsea? My mother in law needed pink role out icing and this was the ONLY Place in the world to go. apparently. hope that is helpful!
we got colours from http://www.cakecraftshop.co.uk (pens as well as paints, natural vegeatable dyes too). you can get all sorts of little steel tools from a tool shop, just put them in the dishwasher first.
