In conversation with Cafe Lemon owner Cem Kaplan this week, he confirmed to Harringay Online that current plans will see the sale of the business to neighbouring Gokyuzu. Cafe Lemon's last week will be the first week of January.
It's a shame to see this business go since it's become something of a Harringay institution. Not perhaps as long in the tooth as the also soon-to-close Disney's, but it's been around for getting on for 20 years.
Cem told me "It's just become uneconomic for my and my business partner. We're very busy at the weekends but we're not getting enough business during the week to make ends meet."
Cem plans to open a new cafe bistro on Philip Lane in the New Year and is also looking at moving onto HoL's territory by setting up a borough-wide Haringey website.
As for the future of the premises, it will be linked to the existing Gokyuzu premises by an archway and the whole space will be given over to additional seating
Thanks to Cem and Irfan for so many good years of Lemon-ness!

It used to be a Wimpey bar before Balcon Latino ...then Cafe Lemon as it is now known ,a lady i know worked there for 35yrs but retired when it became Cafe Lemon. Sad to see it go .
AH Just be corrected! by the same lady she tells me it has been a cafe since 1963 when it first opened as a Wimpey Bar.
Thanks for the update Hugh.....but it's PHILIP lane, with one 'L' . Named after St Philip with the proper spelling....
Thank you. I stand corrected as is the text to my post.
SUCH a shame. Thought they were hanging on for a few more months. Boo hoo - will savour my final few panini tricolores there
Plans have now been much accelerated. Tomorrow (Sunday) will be the last day of Lemon!
