Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Bye bye Banksy!

For a few days now I've suspected something was afoot with Turnpike Lane's Banksy; it's been surrounded by scaffolding and tarpaulin since Wednesday - and there was a security van present for much of that time.

This morning I had a sneaky look under said tarpaulin to find it had been removed. I spoke to the guy rendering the wall and he said that after repeated attempts to gouge it out, the owner of the Poundland building had decided to take steps to 'preserve' it. He wasn't sure where it's gone...one can only wonder if it's been sold. Sad to see it go - it was nice to have a landmark of sorts...

So Lynne Featherstone will be meeting reps from the property company.

I've been thinking about this. And about the suggestions - well, actually the demands - apparently made by Robert Davies and Les Gilbert, described by the Evening Standard as the "millionaire property developers" who own the freehold of the Poundland building in Whymark Avenue. According to "a friend" they insist that:

"In future when Banksy does something like this again, the council should immediately record it as a piece of art and put a vented, bullet-proof system around it to protect it forever. A plaque could go on it.”

Plaque? Vented? Bullet-proof system? Haringey Council proclaiming it as art and protecting it forever? And this should happen immediately Banksy stencils graffiti on walls in Wood Green or Tottenham? (And potentially on the front of Cllr Joe Goldberg's house in Muswell Hill?)

Am I alone in detecting a rat - and guessing who drew it?

So I wonder who Lynne will actually meet when Rob and Les show up at her office.

Matt, I've just formed our local branch of the Taliban [www.taliban/wightman-chapter.org.harringay]. We shall be extending our 24/7 patrols to include Turnpike Lane & environs as from tonight. Punishments to take place in the open spaces of Fairland Park and Duckett Common - later in Finsbury Park to cater for growth of appreciative crowds. Could all harringayonliners please start amassing copious supplies of fist-size stones immediately? Ms Featherstone & Ms Kober, please take this notice as adequate warning.
