Harringay online

Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Was 'upgraded' 2 weeks ago to sooper dooper Infinity tho I was quite happy with what I'd got. Since then, nothing but problems. Progress? I dont think so.

It's unstable and the BT WiFi Zone keeps taking over my internet so I cant access my own accounts. I have to keep switching off my computer.

On Friday the whole thing went down for hours. It's causing me stress and loss of time as need constant reliable internet for working at home. Anyone else experiencing problems?

Hi Ruth

Have you got at home any spare wireless router from your previous settings which could be switch on and check to eliminate the wireless issue?

if you don't mind I could run a free consultation for you to check the kind on issue at your home to locate if your problem is the internet or the wireless Access Point from your router

thanks for the offer Marek. I will have a look and get back to you. I am going to get in touch with BT, again. Keep getting the message that there is a problem in the area...

if you have a message about the connection in the whole area where you live it does not give much choice for any other action. What about connecting to  your closer neighbours router to see any progress?

You can turn off the BT WiFi and BT OpenZone features if you don't want to use these - these will not affect your own personal wireless connection in any way, which will still appear as something like BTHub3-XXXX

Andy

Thanks both for these tips. I shall monitor the connection the next few days and see how things go. So far so good today.....Didnt realise that the BTWIfi and BTOpen Zone features could be switched off. I have never found them to be of any use anyway!

cheers

BT WiFi and BT OpenZone are optional public wireless networks served from your BT Hub that allow other BT customers who have signed up to either of these services to get a wireless connection through your hub if they are within range. Useful for visitors to your house or for cafes, shops & pubs, etc but users of these services will use some of your bandwidth.

Mind if I ask which area you're in?  I've been waiting for Infinity in Warham Road on the Ladder for months and they keep putting back the expected roll out date.  Grrrrr...

I wouldnt moan about that given my experience... I wish I hadnt of been 'done' at all for Infinity. But now I have all this good advice here and will try to switch off the BTWifi and Open Zone if I can see how to actually do that of course. It happened again today!

Is this a problem just with wireless or the internet generally?

Could you connect your computer via a cable to a router and observe the same issue?

Surprisingly, connection to a local network and receiving the internet are not always the same things.

Maybe your neighbours have their wireless router on the same wireless channel and experience this issue all the time.

Did you contact BT Infinity?

I did contact them and they made a note of my problem last week, will have to contact them again I guess.

I'm not really sure what you mean to connect computer via a cable to router... sorry for being a bit ignorant on this stuff. All I know is that before Infinity I had no problems.

Right now I have internet, am doing this for example and just watched iPlayer but I am locked out of BTinternet email account again. I used to be able to have all of these things available but seems not the case now.

No problem with your question about connection

Do you have a desktop which is connected to your router box via a cable from a router       or you have a laptop which pick-up a signal wirelessly

Maybe your neighbours have their wireless router on the same wireless channel and experience this issue all the time

By default, the BT Hub 3 detects other wireless network signals in the vicinity and automatically switches to an unused, or at least less congested, channel. It could be that this feature has been disabled in the web-based user interface on your hub which you can access using any browser on a computer, tablet or smartphone connected to your wireless network - just log in using the password you were given when the hub was installed to access this interface and check this and many other settings.
