PR Facebook Team, keep putting up Post reminding users of Boroughs Parks to take home their Rubbish
Reporting that it is cost £500,000 to Clear
Not aware of Any of the Borough's Parks having in house Staff ?
Aware they use Mobile Teams
Not aware of them taking on any more Staff in recent Times
Joke is that many of the Few Bins in parks get people walking through, dumping carrier bags of domestic rubbish
Plus most Parks are not cleared on a daily basis
Plus many people using the Parks live in Rooms and Flats and not always viable to take waste home, especially if they have screaming kids in tow
I have added the Comment on their Post, what is the Boroughs Residents and Traders paying High local Taxes, if not for Our Green Spaces
Well aware from Experience in Finsbury Park that you can not put larger bins by entrances. As outsiders will fill them before you leave the area
Also wonder how much of the rubbish is recycled ?

Residents permit costs also go towards freedom passes, so I make sure that I get my money's worth.

My experience of Chestnuts; Downhills; and Lordship Rec (amongst others) is that they are covered by one person on a daily basis who has a mountain to climb in terms of keeping things clean and litter free. Chestnuts would be a mess were it not for a wife and husband team carrying out a daily voluntary litter sweep assisted by myself and others when we have a free moment. But we can only do so much. After a day of wind the hedges are soon full of the kind of plastic pollution that gets down in the soil eventually.
Not everyone is a litterer BUT there are plenty of people who will bring the house to Chestnuts Park for a party...but won't take that litter home.
Parks are also a weak link on the flytipping aspect as Parks Services don't have the same resource as street teams run by Veolia. Big items can be dumped in the hedges and remain for weeks. It encourages others to carry out this dumping, especially at night, when they go unchallenged.
Finally the other kind of litter is that generated by ASB. When such activity is allowed to go unchallenged in the park and when resources to carry out clean-ups are so low the result is unsanitary and dangerous items left behind.
Without a proper management and monitoring strategy Park Services continue to be reactive to the increasing problems. I respect that signs have gone up but these only have a limited shelf life. This is a shame when the lockdown demonstrated how much of a community resource our green spaces are. We allow litter and ASB to take hold at our peril.

I believe that free access to parks is enshrined in acts of Parliament. There is a Finsbury Park Act (1857) which legislates on use and access.
Imagine a household living in the Rowley Garden Estate right opposite the park, with no outside space and three kids, having to shell out 4 or 5 quid a day during the school holidays to allow their kids to run around. Or people who live in hostel accommodation with no where else to go during the day. Or those without access to public funds. Also, who would pay for the extra security needed to keep out non-payers?

Excellent to know somebody so clued up on an act of parliament. How does it legislate on littering; flytipping; and drug taking in parks?

A few weeks ago I was stuck in traffic on Endymion Road and watched as two young women walking up on the other side of the road finished eating and threw the wrappers over the fence into Finsbury Park. As they drew nearer I said "Did you just throw your rubbish over the fence?" one of them replied "Yes because I don't give a f***" I was too dumbfounded to think of a comeback or what action to take. I despair.

I live at the back of wood green High Road. The amount of outer boxes that get left around as they do not fit in vehicles. Joke is Argo offers to take outers if unrequired. As has a large compactor at back of store
Another issue is van drivers who park up overnight throw out bags of Rubbish. Especially as there are No litter bins around
On the Noel Park estate nearly every phone switch cabinet has rubbished dumped around them daily. Road Sweeper left several bags of sweepings and within a hour , gained at least four extra carriers bags
Also a growing number of recycling Bins that have been rejected. Noticed one the other day jammed full of polystyrene, which is Not recycled locally. Yet another green Bin left on footway
Veolia, will repair / replace damage bins. But you have to pay if lost
Believe the Only answer is to go back to Weekly refuse Collection
Years ago when a Park Keeper at Finsbury Park it was the responsibility of early keepers to walk around Park boundary . As as mentioned people often threw rubbish including carrier bags of household rubbish into park . Plus many of the park bins was also jammed with carrier bags of household rubbish. But in those days bins was emptied several times a day
