If you ban cyclists the roads will clog up and so will the tubes and busses. I'm just saying that lorries are more of a problem bendy busses as far as cyclists are concerned so don't bring up accident statistics to support your argument because they also support an argument for doing away with lorries.
Shall I tell the parents of the 16 year old killed in Tooting that he should not have been on the inside of the lorry and that's why he is now dead? Riding a bicycle in London is frightening. I do it for many reasons but one of them is to be a good citizen and not pollute my neighbour's environment.
Back to bendy busses - they are good.

Half of the deaths of cyclists in London are from HGV's, usually because they are sneaking up the inner left hand part of the road by the gutter, actually illegal for motorised two wheeled vehicles due to the dangers, yet cyclists are not educated in such safety matters, such as "life saver" checks or positioning themselves safely within certain situations.
The responsibility is also down to the cyclist, if you put yourself in such dangerous positions, you're heading for trouble.

The roads in London weren't designed for the numbers and variation of traffic on it today.
I don't actually find it scary one bit on a bike, I go as fast as is safe and try not to put myself if danger by jumping lights, riding on the other side of the road or inside large vehicles. If you minimise your risk by acting in a reasonable manner, you'll be okay. I have never had one accident or near accident on my bike and I put that down to riding with common sense, respect and my safety head on.
I am not blaming the victim I am saying if this is how some people ride, it's easy to understand why there are so many deaths.

Well, John, I think that's exactly what the coroner said in the case of the cyclist killed in Battersea.
The accident statistics I quoted were bendy V ordinary buses - you were the one who diverted us onto lorries (so to speak )

Of course, it is not likely that we will see the back of lorries in London's streets (sadly), although it would be a step forward to consider if there could be less of them, but the point is that it is a smokescreen to suggest that getting rid of the bendies is out of concern for the poor hapless cyclist.
It is a political decision made to undo the work of the previous administration. It is not based on anything concrete but is in response to those who put Boris there.
Hey a politician delivering on his election promises, who am I to argue? The fact that it is going to cost a fortune, that most transport experts think its madness and that it will put more traffic on the road is a small price to pay for the exercise of democracy.

I would doubt there will be any civility about it. I shall be walking the opposite way down a one way and recklessly crossing Green Lanes without looking then shouting at a taxi driver for nearly knocking me over : )

Matt and John D.. well at least you'll have something else to complain about when you're drinking your beers.. Your taxes will be going when the blonde wonder starts changing the routes over to D/D operation... because Mr Johnson hasn't yet told us how he's going to pay for all this.. To provide the same capacity as one bendy bus with one driver, they will have to be replaced by two new RMs (that are still only a paper dream) with TWO drivers and TWO conductors... Very clever...and expensive.. Never mind, I expect by the time the new buses ever do start appearing, Ken will be back..

edit: thinking about it tho' No wonder you like it ...you also think the hideous Ally Pally building is wonderful.. It may look great on the horizon ..from a distance.. but close up, it's quite clear why it has always been a white elephant
