Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I've now seen  that my fears concerning tiny but powerful bombs including in pagers and radios were mentioned on a United Nations website on 19 September 2024. https://www.ohchr.org/en/press-releases/2024/09/exploding-pagers-an...

What has this to do with a North London suburb?

I hope nothing at all.

But crime and violence are not unknown in our own and other UK cities.

Presumably there is also a report concerned about the welfare of the people of northern Israel who have rockets launched indiscriminately in their direction on a regular basis. Or one condemning those who use innocent Lebanese people as human shields.

Please don't let me down Gordon Farcas.
I assumed - not presumed - that you are thoughtful and intelligent enough to do your own Google searches.
Have independent UN rapporteurs condemned the use of rockets as you ask?

YES.

Oh and by the way, Gordon Farcas, I thought that you and I were partly thinking along the same track two days ago.
I then raised the issue of the likely misuse of the new technology putting these mini-bombs into everyday tools like radios phones and pagers. You posted as follows:

I have no problem with Mossad, the Americans or our own security services
having and using this capability to prevent terrorist attacks in this way.

I do have a problem  since these weapons appear to be breaking the international laws of war. if this is not so I see many reasons why the risk if making random people including women and children blind, deaf or otherwise disabled does other than increases future hatred and desire for revenge.

Anyway you continued:
What worries me is the possibility of the same terrorists replicating the
capability to use it against us. One exploding phone/pager/heart monitor
/garmin watch won't bring down a plane but a few together (say for an
Olympic team) probably would. I wonder how long it will be before we are
prevented from taking any electronic devices onto a plane.

Perhaps I have been watching too much tele. I do hope so."

So I don't think either of us have been have been watching too much tele.

Speaking of espionage and security related matters, Alan, your photo has always reminded me of Saul from Homeland.

'Homeland' Recap: Season 8, Episode 2 — 'Catch and Release' | TVLine

Give it a rest Alan. Its getting boring!

If you are so passionate about this then get back into politics and leave Haringey Online to second hand books etc.

Doodle, when is someone allowed to be passionate by you?
When would you yourself become passionate or even angry?
Perhaps when a  friend or family member of your own is sitting in a plane next to someone carrying one of these mini-bombs when it explodes?  Or on holiday abroad and go into a shop and is injured by an explosion?
Would this stop the issue boring you?

I linked to the article by Loubna El Amine not just because she grew up in South Lebanon and knows what she writes about. Nor because of her religious background. But also because she is a human who is seeking to warn other responsible humans about these new events and dangers.

Now she lives and teaches in London; and for the time being shares our city. Should she too "give it a rest"?  Or continue to behave as a mutually caring citizen?

Why do a few people feel the need to infect this side with their divisive, massively partisan adolescent political posturing?

It’s got f***-all to do with what this site is about, and runs counter to the supportive, inclusive ethos that governs the rest of this site.

There are any number of places to post that sort of stuff - so please mods, can you sort this out?
