Harringay online

Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Went to Edmonton via White Hart lane ,

Junction with Perth Road was real deep plus several other parts of road

Anyone aware of Borough Drains are being cleared ?

Especially as more storm are due

Also aware my own road had a lot of surface water. Which took ages to go down drains

Bob, When did you report these problems to Haringey Council?  Directly or using FixMyStreet?

Did you get a chance to take photos and email these as well?  I find this is very helpful and enables an initial assessment before visiting.

I once learned a trick (technique) from Peter Norton (a former Haringey Council director of Environment). Martin Ball & I used this. We got a ligneous improvised blockage detection device (bamboo cane) from a local florist & which seemed to help.

No I did not report it. As past attempts to report issues. Never get replied or Acted on

Plus I was stuck in Traffic thanks to Road restrictions on my Journey

But can assure you that they effected large numbers of Motorist and pedestrians trying to use Roads and pavements. Especially Perth Road / White Hart Lane. As well used by school children

I remember Peter Norton as was around during my time working for the Council

And used to have a Pole in my Van

In those days it was my Job to report such issues

In those days by Fax. And in those days I got replies. As was QA

So, Bob, you told Harringay OnLine members [Harringay Ladder/Gardens, Green Lanes N4/N8] about a problem in farthest Tottenham [N17].

But not Haringey Council.

Objectively, which of those two groups is more likely to fix the drains.

And be more engaged with that particular problem.

Just asking.

Reason for post to see what other Borough Drains are Blocked

Well aware other Borough drains are also suffering not being cleaned

As posted retired Council Officer. So well aware of Borough issues. and still live and travel through the Borough

"Reason for post, to see what other Borough Drains are Blocked"

Useful post here on HoL, that. We're a community of drain surveyors, then.

So.

One of Haringey Council's drains was blocked.

But you didn't tell them.

So Haringey couldn't act.

On your non-report.

You could have told them.

You could also tell Haringey Council about any other information you have on

"Borough drains are also suffering not being cleaned"

I hope you will.

And then reflect on what's genuinely relevant to Harringay.

As stated earlier , I often report Service issues. But during Covid

But at present contact numbers are not be answered and emails come back as email service full

Not aware of a Rate reduction during Covid ?

Understand Forum was to discuss Borough issues ?

The Forum is [see top of home page]

"The online home of all things Harringay (you may say Harringay Green Lanes)"

That's Harringay, not [the Borough of] Haringey. Often what Haringey does to Harringay is discussed e.g. Black Boy Lane.

But Haringey's drainage problems near the borough boundary in outer Tottenham - well, just, they're not a Harringay issue.

A drain it draineth to the south
And in the east direction,
But the Council's email needs to work
If we want the best correction

I just contacted the council about a drain on Wightman Road and man got back to me very quickly.  I will contact him about this to see if he's happy to put his email on here.  I just don't want him to be inundated and there may be a official place where you can lodge an issue.  Regards, James

"... I just don't want him to be inundated ..."

A key point. I call it a "soft door". The difference between say, phoning or emailing someone you've found helpful in the past; or using a "hard door" which puts you in an automated queue.

Bob Ruggles mentioned sending in a report and getting an "email service full" message. Which, if it's still happening, is dysfunctional.
Similarly, sending an email or reporting through another channel, and not getting a reply or even an acknowledgement.

Hi Alan;  I had a recent experience with someone at Homes4Haringey.  That person was really good, really good.  I then had another issue and that person has not been as good.  So, I'm a little concerned that other people might not get the same service that I did and that's not right or fair.  I'm getting in touch with him in the hopes that he will give others the same service that he gave me.  The last think I want is someone coming back to me and say so and so was useless.  It doesn't help anyone.  I like to think of myself as a can do person.  I hope you understand where I'm coming from.  If he's onboard he might turn out to be a very good contact for all of us.  I'll have a think over the weekend.   How's that.  Cheers, James
