Depends what your definition of costing the earth is! Last time I looked at shutter quotes, I found the DIY option cheapest and pretty easy to fit. We used the California Shutter Company's Plantation Shutters on a bay window in our last flat - they were the best value we could find that were also suitable to fit ourselves (and they were simple to fit, if you're reasonably confident with straightforward DIY). Their site has a quick calculator you can plug your window measurements in for a quote.

But in our Ladder house, we've ordered bottom-up blinds instead, and are waiting for those to arrive.

Thanks for the top tip Donna. I have had a look at the California Shutter website and theres some great stuff on there. Good luck with yours!!

Hi Donna, very belated reply to ask where you got your bottom-up blinds from and whether you are happy with them. Thank you!

Hello, Donna's partner here.  We're happy with them visually and reasonably happy with them quality-wise.  We had to re-tension them a few times.  But overall, and for the price, we're happy.  We got them from here: http://bottomupblinds.co.uk/
