Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Does anyone know of a good place to buy cured wood for a wood burner ? I was thinking the ideal solution would be for a few locals to bulk buy and split the lower costs. If someone had a place to safely store the wood, between drop off and split up, we could have a good little wood collective going ....

Could get it at whole sale prices from these guys if we could harbour 24 crates somewhere before the divi up.

Great idea. Interested but no space sadly.  Perhaps even if said company could deliver to the area on one day, perhaps a discount of sorts?

If we can find an yard for the drop off and we had 24 people who wanted in, I reckon we would half the cost or less. I've asked for a quote for the guy. Will post the details when I get them.

It's a great way of using collective bargaining for the common good, there must be some local project that will help...

It's possible they will do a multi drop, great idea, will ask also.

Are there no UK suppliers ? Seems a bit sad wood has to be shipped from so far away (yes i know, it's cheaper).

Would love to go local if it wasn't too much more, got any contacts ?

There is always a trade off though, more pounds require more energy to make them.

Would love to go off the grid and stop getting gas from Russia to be honest and not just for environmental reasons...

FPR* This time of year tree doctors are busy - Have you tried contacting any of the local ones  ?

They probably deal in fresh wood, you need it stored dry for a couple of years ideally.first.
Here are some example's of current retail prices ...

It would be nice to get it at wholesale prices instead if bought as a group which I imagine would be half that.

We use http://www.certainlywood.co.uk/ and usually order them in the summer when prices are cheaper

Thanks, I've got the prices back from the Latvian contact they say ....

we use a 40ft.HC container, we can offer you a 40L bag for 3.14EUR per piece delivered to London, UK. 22 pallets, 66 bags on each pallet. I attached a picture of this pallet. This adds up to 1452 bags, plus (IF YOU WANT) we add bags to the door and on top of each pallet when its loaded, this way you will have almost 1600bags and you get more firewood in one delivery.

The firewood will be great quality product. We export our firewood to Norway most of the time and they require ns4414 Norwegian standard for firewood.

Our firewood specifics:

30cm +- 1cm in length
Humidity 15-20%
Weight of one 40L bag 15kg

So it's under £2.60 a bag or under £180 for pallet. If we had 22 people and a drop off point we could save a fair bit.

Yes i have actually Pete, I've also got a community project in mind. Will do a bit more digging.
FPR. Would be interested in this too. I have a place I can store wood but only for my own use sadly. Built a little log shed last summer that the wind is currently wrecking!
The Latvian wood company can do 1452bags @ 3.14EUR which is 4559,28EUR but they can't do multiple drop offs and they want all the money up front before delivery.

Sadly, ever since a lad called 'sky' went off with my ten pound note outside seven eleven and never came back with anything in return one summers evening in 1986, I've always been a tad sceptical of paying upfront first.

So not sure it's a goer really. Unless anyone else is feeling a little more flush and fancies taking a punt on a friendly Latvian with a website ...
