Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Am grudgingly facing up to the possibility of having cut right down on road running due to age-related stresses and strains on the knees.

Looking for a decent local gym with cross trainers in.

Not interested in anywhere that'll be full of weight lifters!

Any recommendations?

Would you be at all interested in buying a cross trainer for £50? I bought one and all my good intentions are sitting in the corner with the cross trainer in my livingroom! If you're interested let me know and I could take some pictures for you.

I live near Seven Sisters station and it would need to be collected if you are interested as I don't have transport.

Hi Hugh,

I've been going to the easyGym in Wood Green for a few years now and really enjoy it. Membership is very cheap compared to your Virgin Actives/ Fitness Firsts etc, starting at about £17.99 a month, and it has loads of equipment.

You'll be hard pressed to find any gym that isn't full of weight lifters, however easyGym has separate rooms for free weights/ resistance machines, cardiovascular machines and stretching etc, so you can keep your encounters with them to a minimum.

Further up on Lordship Lane you've also got The Gym, which is similarly priced but smaller.

Hope that helps!

Easy gym rocks, pay £17.99 and do nothing each month but feel healhier by virtue or being a member. Also after two months of not going they well stop telling you by email how many calories you failed to burn.

Touch.

if you basically just want access to the machines then there are lots more locally then there used to be. Many are branding themselves 'affordable fitness' offering less facilities and luxury, and some are open 24 hours,.

Of the chains, there's easyGym & The Gym in Wood Green (and Totttenham too) and then Pure Gym in Finsbury Park, and I think all offer no-contract monthly subs. Pure has a joining fee, and most classes are included. For a bit more, Fitness First in the Arena shopping park has more facilities and is very popular and then there's Crouch End Virgin Active, LA Fitness Muswell Hill or the Laboratory if you want to be getting the full health club experience. Not forgetting local authority gyms such as Tottenham Leisure Centre, the YMCA and the small clubs like Premier Fitness Club.

What are you after? Have you looked at synergy on Tottenham lane for cross fit classes (and also personal training).

The newly fitted out gym etc at the Tottenham Green  Leisure Centre Pools and Fitness is all very swish, if you're in reach. It's gone over to Fusion, a charity, ie is no longer scuzzy neglected LBH-run.  Cafe, ball park for kids, pool  etc etc.  Tottenham_Green_Leisure_Centre

They have cross trainers but I'm too scared to use them cos of my knees. A few free weights in the corner but mostly full of proper old Tottenham ladies.

There's a free option - the Outdoor Gym in Finsbury Park (nearest entrance, the footpath off Endymion Road).

Total Boxer in Hornsey do a range of classes. The strength and conditioning one is a very challenging 45 minute session that is classic circuit training. Very friendly and wide ranging members, not as intimidating as it sounds!

Have you looked at  the gym, Premier Fitness Club in Finsbury Park?

Cheap, decent quality and the best knowledge, they train people to be Personal trainers there.
