Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Asking on behalf of an elderly friend of mine. First her landline started beeping for no good reason then her cordless battery charged one did. And then a defunct bin atone (binafone?) on kitchen wall did... She took out the last one but now the all seems to be beeping. Its very annoying. Intermittent, doesn't know when it will start or why. The other phones have calmed down she says.

Does anyone have any idea on why this happened, what caused it and what can she do about the beeping wall?

Appreciate any help here.

Thanks for responding. I'd read about the landline decommissioning but thought they'd be letting people know in advance of this? Maybe not. Not happy about this, seems we don't get a choice.

Don't know if this is what's going on but could be the case. My friend will be lost without her landline....as will many others. She can't use mobile very well.

Have you witnessed this yourself? It really sounds more like a smoke alarm needing a new battery.

I haven't been yet but I think she'd know if it's a smoke alarm. She said it was coming from the old phone on the wall. But I will remind her though. thank you!

I'd second that. I've found it really hard to work out which smoke alarm is actually beeping when it's battery replacement time.

My parents thought they had birds in the loft and almost called in the council, until we worked out it was the smoke alarm. The fact that it seems to be coming from multiple appliances probaby means it's not coming from any of those.

Thanks every one for your responses, kind of you to take the time. My friend said that all has been peaceful today. Maybe the old phone has beeped itself out now and the one that did so in sympathy also shut up. Maybe a case of the ghost in the machine?!

It wasn't a smoke alarm. I had that the other week myself and it took me more than a few minutes to figure out where the beeps were coming from!

If someone doesn't replace their handset properly on the base the phone company might send a beeping noise down the line. Could be that. Or, if she's got a hands free phone that's not being recharged frequently a low battery might cause a beeping sound, depending on the phone type.

The beeping stopped from her landline but was coming from the wall from where she'd pulled out an old binafone which hadn't worked for years. Anyway, it seems to have stopped now thank goodness. Thanks for your time.
