Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

From the BBC:

The BBC are holding a Springwatch Festival 'Wild Day Out' on Saturday 5th June in Alexandra Palace Park in Haringey. Reflecting the International Year of Biodiversity, the festival will have a strong biodiversity theme. It aims to raise awareness and understanding of local biodiversity by getting people excited about the variety of wildlife in London s urban parks and showing them what they can do to help record, encourage and protect it.

The festival will have a family audience and aims to attract between 6,000 and 10,000 local people. As the event forms part of Haringey Green Week it will be promoted extensively throughout the borough, as well as on the BBC Springwatch Programme, in the Radio Times and through BBC London - on TV, on radio and online. It promises to be a great event and you can find further information in the attached document.

We would like to invite you to participate in two ways:

1.  By running a stall - to promote your group and provide practical advice and activities on the theme of encouraging wildlife and helping biodiversity. Stands are free and furniture will be provided. If you are interested in booking a stall at the festival, please fill in the attached form and email it to naomi.arnold@bbc.co.uk by12th April 2010.

2. By taking part in a BioBlitz coordinated by the Natural History Museum and OPAL. This is a race against the clock to spot as many different species as possible within the park in 24 hours. Scientists from the Natural History Museum will work alongside local naturalists and members of the public to produce a snap-shot of the Park s biodiversity. As well as demonstrating just how much biodiversity can be found in the Park, it s a great way to introduce the process and value of biological recording to a wide audience. We hope that it will also be a fun social occasion! The species data generated will be used to help inform Park management practices and will be made freely available to interested societies. We would love you to join us for as much or as little time as you like during the 24 hour survey period (Friday evening to Saturday evening). We will provide refreshments and can cover any travel and subsistence costs.  If you would like to find out more, including ways in which you can take part, then please contact John Tweddle on 0207 942 5120 / j.tweddle@nhm.ac.uk

I look forward to hearing from you,

Naomi.

Ally Pally Bioblitz is happening today, with BBC's Springwatch in attendance. As well as people recording as many plant, insect, and animal species found as possible in 24hours (it began last night), there are marquees/things on display at the bottom of the hill near the Victoria Stakes. This includes a re-used shipping container converted into a biodiverse habitat for plants, insects, birds and bats that I'm involved with. It's just stopping in Ally Pally for the day, before going to it's proper home at the Barnes Wetland and Wildfowl centre.

Never saw that! Kids & I had a great time at this Springwatch event though. Very informative & fun.
....it was so well converted!
Matt you must have passed by it as it was the first thing on the left as you walked in. It looked like a big bus shelter but covered in short bits of bamboo as bug habitats with planting over the roof.
